Wimbledon chief executive Richard Lewis to step down next year

Wimbledon’s first executive, Richard Lewis, says he will step down after next year’s Championships.
Lewis will leave after eight years at the character and his departure complies with the role of Wimbledon chairman’s handover from Philip Brook to Ian Hewitt.
Under Lewis there was a 160 per cent increase in player prize cash, Court No. 1 was rebuilt and the grass-court year was extended.
The former British Davis Cup player said in a statement on Wimbledon’s website: »It’s been a huge privilege to become chief executive of the club and to play a role in the continued development of this club and The Championships.
« Given the election of a new chairman in Ian Hewitt, and the evolution of the following master plan for the entire breadth of those grounds, it is the ideal time for me to measure  »
Brook claims that the 64-year-old has given »a phenomenal period of modification that will be recognised in our own history ».
Lewis joined the All England Club at 2012, with been chairman of the Rugby Football League as 2002 and chair of Sport England because 2009.
